I make experimental videos and films that have strong narrative qualities. Often, I write and record a piece of music with a certain concept and/or feeling I wanted to describe, and then shoot images that correlate to those sounds. I tend to use multiple dissolves as a means of representing free association, human dreams, memory-recall, and states of spiritual awareness or internal conflict.
The pieces listed below represent my work in the 1990s. I only recently acquired the ability to edit video and film strictly out of my home office, and am in the process of getting equipment together to produce a science fiction film I am currently scripting.
WAY
He came to life as a man. He left this life forever changed.
Way was my first video production ever. It was my introduction into filmmaking while I was getting my Master of Fine Arts in Painting. Producing Way was such a profound experience as a Christian artist, that I changed my major into the film / video production. In the face of predominant evangelistic thought at the time, that artwork needed to be overtly "Christian" to be effective, I realized in making Way, that this was not correct. In fact, what I found was that simply being true to the artistic language was more than enough.
Way is an experimental video, produced in 1989/90.
Before Sleep
Lying awake in bed. Thinking of regrets... thinking of lost chances... remembering the hard past... and wishing that what was, had only been a dream.
Before Sleep is an experimental film, produced in 1995.
